Mayflower Enterprises Celebrates Innovation with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra

The South Bend Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) captivated the community with its annual Gift of Music Gala, themed “Innovation,” on August 24, 2024, at the Four Winds Casino South Bend.

This year’s gala emphasized the Symphony’s dedication to exploring new frontiers in orchestral music. It was an evening of celebration, creativity, and vision as the SBSO celebrated its record-breaking 2023-24 season and anticipated an exciting future.

Under the theme of Innovation, the gala showcased the Symphony’s dynamic achievements, including its record-breaking attendance and engagement throughout the past season. Highlights from the season included the performance of Anna Clyne’s “Quarter Days” with the Euclid Quartet and Michael Schelle’s “The Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse,” as well as the premiere of Malek Jandali’s “The Desert Rose,” attended by Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, State of Qatar ambassador to the United States.

Justus Zimmerman, Executive Director of the SBSO, expressed his pride in the Symphony’s accomplishments: “Witnessing the growth we’re experiencing, both in the raw numbers of people and the number of hours they choose to spend with us, is truly humbling. Our achievements this season highlight our city’s unique vibrancy and dedication, setting us apart and inspiring continued growth and success.”

The South Bend Symphony Orchestra, recognized for its excellence with the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County’s Leighton Award, continues to inspire and connect the community through its rich orchestral programming. The Gift of Music Gala is a testament to the Symphony’s ongoing dedication to fostering a vibrant arts community in the Michiana region.
